Last weekend Thomas took part in a round of the European Championship for the third time this season. After the Norwegian and Swedish races, the Umeå-based team had a long trip from northern Sweden to Belgium.
This time there were approx 30 cars in Division 1, and after 8th, 5th and 4th places in the qualifying rounds Thomas had qualified his Hyundai Accent WRC on pole position in the B-final.
Right before the start of the B-final a heavy rain shower started. In the slippery conditions Thomas had a bad getaway from the start line and lost some places. After a few corners he was back in second place. But at the end of the first lap the hopes of a place in the A-final disappeard when Thomas was hit from behind by Chris Van Woensel. The hit damaged the rear suspension, and Thomas had to park his Hyundai Accent WRC next to the track, not able to continue.
